This flat renovation was thoughtfully designed with a deep respect for the building’s historic charm, while introducing modern touches that offer both functionality and warmth. Set within a classic Bath stone structure, the goal was to create a space that feels contemporary yet timeless. Honouring the past while offering the comforts of modern living. A key focus was maximising space without compromising on character. Clever layout planning and integrated lighting solutions help open up the rooms while maintaining a cosy, intimate feel. The use of light-toned interiors, such as soft greys and warm whites, enhances the sense of space and reflects natural light beautifully, especially in areas like the bathroom where a skylight brings in daylight from above. Lighting played a central role in this design. Throughout the property, warm, ambient lighting was carefully positioned to give a candle-lit effect, evoking the soft glow found in traditional Bath interiors. Wall recesses and built-in LED strips offer both form and function, enhancing architectural details while setting a relaxing tone. A key material choice was the use of brushed brass fixtures, seen in the taps, handles, and shower frame. Brass has long-standing roots in historic interiors — especially Georgian and Victorian — and its warm, golden hue brings a touch of heritage to the space. Reimagined in a modern, matte finish, the brass details help to bridge the gap between old and new, offering a subtle elegance that complements the light palette and soft textures throughout the flat.
